Greater Sunrise Gas Project

A major gas development project at the Greater Sunrise fields containing an estimated 5.1 trillion cubic feet of gas. The project involves studying a five million-tonne gas production plan with a forecasted production timeline of 2032-2035. The project has faced decades of delays due to maritime boundary disputes and disagreements over the location of gas processing facilities. East Timor prefers building a greenfield liquefied natural gas plant on its south coast, while Woodside Energy initially preferred piping gas to Darwin. East Timor has used its sovereign wealth fund to buy out previous partners and is willing to invest more to develop the onshore concept.
