Description | Network Rail replaced the Greek Street bridge in Stockport, a key stop on the West Coast Main Line, in a £20 million scheme completed in summer 2025. The project involved removing 200 concrete beams from the previous 67-year-old structure and installing new bridge sections across a 60m gap above the tracks, with a concrete deck poured on top. The new structure is designed to last an estimated 120 years and aims to keep trains moving safely while minimizing disruption to motorists. Following the bridge replacement, finishing works on the road and utility diversions were completed. The Greek Street roundabout, which sits atop the bridge, was closed for almost a year and is set to reopen on 27 March 2026. |
