"The ""Active Cities – Green Cities"" project aims to promote citizen engagement, environmental sustainability, and democratic governance across Europe through a series of 18 local, international and online events. Building on the success of previous EU initiatives such as the Conference on the Future of Europe, the project focuses on empowering women, young citizens, and municipal policymakers to actively participate in shaping environmental policies and practices in their local communities. Through activities spanning green mobility, renewable energy, sustainable tourism, and more, the project will raise awareness, build capacity, and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders. The activities of the project are based on the rationale that for citizens (and especially young people and women) to be able to participate in European Citizens' Panels, to engage online in the ‘Have Your Say’ portal, or to participate in the continuous conversation in the framework of the European Climate Pact, they need to be informed and “trained” in adopting a bottom-up approach at their local level. To achieve this, during the events that will be organised in the framework of this project, we will showcase examples of cooperation among public authorities, private sector and NGOs that support climate mitigation at the local/regional level, and bring citizens together to discuss actions on the climate and the environment, including energy-related issues, solidarity and sharing best practices, thus contributing to increasing citizens’ engagement in society and ultimately to their active involvement in the democratic life of the Union. By leveraging partnerships, disseminating best practices, and empowering citizens to shape environmental policies, the project aims to achieve sustainable development outcomes, empower communities, and contribute to the long-term resilience of European cities."
