Description
Description | The Yangtze River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world and contributes to the pollution of the world's oceans. The dynamic economic growth of the Yangtze River Delta region in recent decades has taken place to a large extent at the expense of the environment. Water quality has deteriorated significantly throughout the region, air pollution has increased and some of the soils have become heavily polluted. The Yangtze River Delta is also heavily affected by rising sea levels as a result of climate change, partly due to its proximity to the East China Sea. Four of the 20 most affected cities in the world are located in the project region. The project will provide long-term infrastructure financing that is intended to be a pioneer in terms of green financing in other Chinese provinces. The focus of the project is on financing investments in the wastewater and water sector. To a lesser extent, other environmentally friendly projects can also be financed. The direct target group is the population living on the Yangtze River, who are directly affected by daily air and soil pollution. In addition, the project aims to curb environmental pollution and, in particular, marine pollution, and is therefore intended to make a positive contribution to global environmental and marine protection. The project exemplifies the focus of the Federal Cooperation with China on environmental and climate protection and thus also the protection of global public goods. |
