Description
Description | As part of the FC measure Green Urban Infrastructure in the municipality of Beira, funds are to be made available to upgrade the area along the rehabilitated Rio Chiveve in the city center of Beira as a public green space and park. Building on the FC project Climate Adaptation in Beira (BMZ No. 2011.9773.0), the construction of basic economic, social and cultural infrastructure is to prevent the progressive, unplanned urbanization and pollution of the river and thus preserve the natural drainage function of the Rio Chiveve. The operation of the commercially used park creates income and employment opportunities. This strengthens the municipality of Beira in its role as a service provider for its urban residents and its surrounding rural areas. As part of an accompanying measure (BM), the Beira city administration is to be supported in setting up an autonomous park administration and, in parallel, its capacities in the areas of urban planning, park management and revenue generation are to be strengthened through PPP approaches. The direct target group of the measure is the population that lives and works in the partly informal areas bordering the river (around 115,000 inhabitants). The indirect target group is the entire population of the city of Beira and its rural catchment area (around 950,000 inhabitants). The total cost of the project is around EUR 31.8 million. Of this, EUR 29.8 million is for investment measures (including consulting costs) and EUR 2.0 million for a BM. The funding is provided by the World Bank (WB) through the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) with a share of around EUR 13.8 million and by the Federal Development Cooperation with a financing share of EUR 18.0 million (EUR 16.0 million main measure, EUR 2.0 million BM). |
