Description

Description

The Greenport Express is a miniature railroad project in Greenport, NY, involving the acquisition of a miniature train with an engine and three passenger cars, construction of a quarter mile track on land provided by the Village of Greenport, and construction of a facility with a passenger area, public restrooms, and a maintenance area for the train. The 16 gauge train, circa 1954, has a capacity to carry 36 children or 18 adults and runs through the Moores Lane woods on property owned by the Village of Greenport. The project was initiated by the Greenport Rotary Club in partnership with the Village of Greenport, with the club purchasing the train and constructing the track and facility, and the village providing the land and operating the railroad on weekends and holidays. The railroad was reopened in 2024 after repairs ceased operations the previous year, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and over 450 rides given on the first Saturday back.
