Greensand Carbon Capture and Storage Project

The Greensand project involves repurposing a depleted oil reservoir in the North Sea off the Danish coast to store imported European carbon dioxide under the seabed. The project is led by British chemicals giant Ineos and aims to inject liquefied CO2 sourced mainly from biomass power plants into the reservoir via the Nini platform. The first phase is due to begin in the next few months, with a storage capacity of 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, and plans to increase capacity to up to eight million tonnes per year by 2030.
