Description

Description

The Jean Monnet Chair GREENSCAPE-EU proposal is conceived to embed monitoring, evaluation and design strategies within the framework of EU policies for the creation of healthy, resilient, and safe environments, with a specific focus on urban renaturalization at different design scales. Grafted in the courses of Sociology for Architecture held by the Department of Social and Political Science in the School of Architecture, GREENSCAPE-EU seeks to enhance the European dimension in architectural training through an interdisciplinary approach. Integrative topics will include: European perspective on meaning and values of urban nature; Current research on green benefits in urban space; EU Urban greening strategies; Green accessibility targets; EU land monitoring technology development and data governance; Innovative governance of urban green spaces. The Jean Monnet Chair will support the European Commission’s Urban Agenda and its Greening Cities initiatives, as well as Net Zero Mission, fostering a deeper understanding of EU urban greening strategies, climate adaptation policies, and the role of nature in promoting well-being. By bridging education, research, and policy, GREENSCAPE-EU will equip MSc, Master and Phd students, as well as scholars, with the necessary skills to tackle contemporary urban challenges, ensuring that EU environmental strategies are at the core of architectural and design education.
