Description | Greensteel Australia is investing A$500 million to build the country's first new steel mill in over 30 years, located on a 70,000-square-meter site in Mayfield North. The mill will be the first in Australia to operate entirely on electricity, with no natural gas used in production. It will have an annual production capacity of 600,000 mt of finished steel, initially producing rebar with plans to add wire rod and steel coil. The project aims to create over 200 full-time jobs and will utilize electric induction furnace technology supplied by Danieli. Refurbishment and modernization work will start before the end of 2026, with main equipment arriving from October 2027. Operations are planned to begin in January 2028. |
