Greenway State Park Newark Segment

The project involves the development of the first phase of the Greenway state park, transforming a former rail line into a 9-mile, 100-foot-wide multi-use corridor connecting eight communities across Essex and Hudson counties. The Newark segment, nearly 1 mile long, includes an ADA-accessible trail for walking, jogging, and cycling, lined with native plantings. This phase represents the largest investment in state history for a new state park, with a total construction cost of $69.2 million. The project is led by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority as the delivery partner, and AECOM Tishman selected as construction manager. NJ Transit is collaborating on potential transitway expansion integration. The Newark phase is expected to open by the end of 2026.
