Description | The Grootfontein solar power plant is a 273 MW solar energy project located in Witzenberg Local Municipality, Cape Winelands District, Western Cape, South Africa. It is the first solar project to reach Commercial Operation Date under South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme. The plant is expected to generate 700 GWh of clean energy annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 630,000 tonnes. Scatec owns 51% equity, with local partners owning the rest. Scatec will provide operation, maintenance, and asset management services. |
