Scope and Objective of the Project and IIC’s Participation:Moderna Alimentos S.A. is a leading miller and marketer of wheat flour. It has a 40% share of the Ecuadorian market, with coverage in the country’s main centers of consumption. The company has three product lines: industrial and consumer products, and social programs. Moderna Alimentos’ principal industrial product is wheat flour, complemented by such other products as oil and sugar. Its line of consumer products includes packaged bread (the main product in this line), as well as packaged flour and, in the future, pasta. Moderna’s social programs entail formulations of nutritious foods like powdered milk, wheat and corn, soybeans, and vitamins.Moderna Alimentos S.A. has been operating since June 2009, when it arose from the merger of Molino Electro-Moderna S.A., Molinos del Ecuador S.A., and Grupo Moderna. Each one of these companies had more than 12 years of experience in Ecuador’s wheat and flour market.The purpose of this IIC operation is to provide financing for silos, wheat flour storage equipment and logistics, and bread-making and pasta equipment. The financing will enable Moderna Alimentos to increase its wheat flour, pasta, bread, and cake production capacity and efficiency. Moderna Alimentos will also be able to upgrade its storage areas and wheat unloading facilities and equipment in order to shorten unloading times.
