Description | This 56-MW, $59 million, combined-cycle power plant is being developed by GTi Dakar Ltd (GDL). GDL is a consortium of the International Finance Corporation (IFC - 10%) and Greenwich Turbine, Inc (GTi - 90%), which is a subsidiary of Greenwich Air Service, Inc (GASI). General Electric has made a friendly bid to acquire GASI and its subsidiaries and may become a project sponsor. The project will be located at Cap Biches Power Plant, approximately 1km east of Dakar. The project will use naptha or natural gas condensate. GTi will operate the plant under a long-term O&M contract. A 15-year PPA was signed with Societe Nationale d'Electricite du Senegal (SENELEC). The government of Senegal will guarantee the contractual and payment obligations of SENELEC. The project completion date is targeted for early 1999. The plant will be transfered to SENELEC at the end of the 15-year BOOT. In April 28, 2000, Sondel (Italy), electricity production subsidiary of Falck, acquired a 30% stake for $6m from GTI-Dakar.
