The power plant has a generating capacity of 1400-MW (2x700), representing the first phase of a 3960-MW project. It will supply electricity to the Guangdong Province grid. Completion of these two units is expected by the end of 1998. The joint venture company, Guangdong Zhuhai Power Station Co. Ltd., was formed between Bytes Investments Ltd. (45%), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Ltd., Guangdong Electric Development Co. (27.5%), representing the Zhuhai municipality, and Guangdong Electric Power Holding Co. Ltd. (27.5%), the corporate unit of the Guangdong Electric Power Bureau. Project finance was closed in 09/1996, with the total cost being split between a $125.5 million 12-year commercial loan, a $670 million 16-year loan from Jexim and Miti, $360 million in equity from the sponsors, and a Remnibi portion. The turnkey contract went to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Corp. None None
