Description

Description

In December of 2004, Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore based Keppel Corporation, purchased a 25% stake in Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Facilities Management and Operation Company for RMB 5.05 million. The remainder of the JV was to be held by state-owned Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Ground Handling Service Company, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (GBIA). The airport officially opened in August of 2004 and was expected to handle up to 25 million passengers and one million tonnes of cargo a year. The joint venture had a 15-year contract to provide operations and management services to the airport's aero- bridges, escalators, travellators and elevators, as well as the air-conditioning, baggage handling and building management systems. Keppel, a conglomerate with interests in marine engineering and property, was partly owned by the Singapore government and provided operations and management services at Singapore's Changi International Airport.
