Guardian Holdings Limited (“GHL” or the “Company”) is one of the Caribbean's largest insurers with total assets of US$3.4 bn and total equity of US$520 mn. It is engaged in the underwriting of long-term life insurance, non-life (property and casualty) insurance and associated investment activities throughout the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. A.M. Best rates GHL's main Life and P&C subsidiaries as A- (Excellent), although with negative outlook, which still puts GHL in the top quartile of global peers in terms of financial strength. The project entails an equity investment from IFC to strengthen GHL’s balance sheet and improve its growth potential in order to increase access to insurance products (e.g., life, property, casualty, etc.) in underserved regions such as the Caribbean and Central America.
