Description
Description | The Port of Guayaquil Project for Ecuador will assist in financing the construction of a new port at Guayaquil. The existing Port of Guayaquil is a river port with insufficient depth of water for ocean shipping and inadequate cargo handling facilities. The project will build a new port on an adjoining tidal estuary, open to sea going vessels at all states of the tide and equipped with adequate wharves, cargo sheds, and other equipment. Its components are: 1) construction of wharves, port area, berths, four transit sheds and the customary ancillary buildings, and circulating roads and services; 2) construction of a four lane highway and canal; 3) building a channel; 4) installation of navigational aids; 5) procurement of port equipment; and 6) implementation of a new port authority. These new improvements will help to ease the flow of traffic and provide a safe transportation route through Ecuador's largest and busiest port, Guayaquil. |
