Guedelon Castle Medieval Construction Project

under construction

A historical experiment in France's Burgundy region where more than 60 artisans have been building a medieval castle from scratch using only 13th-century techniques and materials. The project began in 1997 and aims to construct the castle entirely by hand, serving as a center for archaeological research, traditional craftsmanship, and sustainable building techniques. The castle includes walls, towers, a great hall, chapel, kitchens, and other medieval features, but remains unfinished after more than 25 years.
