Description
Description | The Artisanal Fishing and Fish Farming Development Project is conceived because of the will of the Government and the African Development Bank to remove these major constraints which still hinder the sustainable development of fishing and aquaculture. It aims to strengthen the people’s food security and reduce poverty. The project is expected to give the two sub-sectors of fisheries and aquaculture, the role that must be theirs in the economy of the country, including the creation of wealth, alleviation of poverty and the strengthening of food security and improving the living conditions of local populations. Indeed, the development of the fishing sector is still confronted with major constraints mainly related to the absence of: (i) landing facilities (on-shore services), (ii) appropriate credit for operators in the sector, and (iii) poor coastal surveillance. The PDPAP should therefore address these major constraints to ensure the sustainable management of the country's fisheries resources by focusing on: (i) protection of stocks through the close monitoring of the coastal maritime zone; (ii) strengthening of fisheries research activities; (iii) training of fish farmers, and the construction of a hatchery; (iv) establishment of a credit system and support to women for their trading and marketing activities; (v) construction of fishing bases; and (vi) financing, by means of a credit line, of the actors of the sector for the realization of the service infrastructures. The project comprises the following components: (a) Fish Farming and Inland Fishery Development; (b) Artisanal Maritime Fishery Development; (c) Support to the National Fishery Surveillance Centre; (d) Accommodating Research; (e) Credit Development; and (f) Project Management. |
