Description

Description

The present project concerns of the Boke Mine Rail and Port. It’s an integrated mining and related transport infrastructure project encompassing (i) the development of a greenfield bauxite mine (including a raw water storage pond) in Sangaredi, Boké region of north-western Guinea, (ii) an upgrade to the existing multi-user rail system linking the Boké region to the Port of Kamsar and allowing for the transportation of the bauxite from the mine to the port terminal, and (iii) the development of a multi-user port in Kamsar including bulk material handling and loading, and container quay terminal. The project is expected to be completed in 2020, at which point a second phase will be developed with the construction of a 2 mtpa alumina refinery. The project had been initiated in 2001 under a different scope (mine development and alumina refinery) with Global Alumina, a junior Canadian mining company and BHP Billiton (Mubadala and Dubal being minority shareholders). The main components of the project concern the mine, the railway and the port.
