Description

Description

Since the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) epidemic was declared on 21 March 2014, the Government of the Republic of Guinea and its partners have been actively involved in the response effort. The epidemic seemed to have been brought under control in mid-May, but a resurgence in the number of confirmed cases and the emergency of new foci were reported at the beginning of June 2014. The epidemic has also spread further within the country and the capital to the neighboring countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia, and more recently to Nigeria; thus giving the crisis a regional dimension. By August 5th 2014, Guinea had recorded 495 cases and 363 deaths (347 confirmed cases and 225 deaths), i.e. a case of fatality rate of 73%.
