Guinea - Upper and Middle Guinea Sustainable Social Development Project - Phase II

The Upper and Middle Guinea Sustainable Social Development Project - Phase II (PDSD II) is a continuation of the overall PDSD I objective which is to reduce poverty in Guinea by promoting and developing entrepreneurship, creating jobs and strengthening local governance. Phase II of the Project will cover three natural regions (two from Phase I, i.e. Upper and Middle Guinea, and activities extended to the Forest Region, especially in areas hosting voluntarily demobilized ex-combatants). This phase is meant to consolidate outputs and prepare tools and mechanisms for establishing the Economic and Social Development Fund (ESDF), the instrument adopted to sustain the outputs of PDSD Phase I. In the medium term, it aims to: (i) improve poor people’s access to basic socio-economic services; and (ii) develop the productive capacity of the poor, particularly women, youth and voluntarily demobilized excombatants by developing IGAs. The implementation period is 24 months, from January 2011 to December 2012.
