Description | The present Rehabilitation Project (RR) is consistent with the Government’s economic and social recovery policy, the interim PRSP and the African Development Bank’s Guinea-Bissau CSP. This Government policy seeks to: (i) consolidate peace and national reconciliation; (ii) alleviate the socioeconomic effects of war; and (iii) define a strategic framework for future development. The project should facilitate the rehabilitation of 13 schools and public latrines in Bissau, sanitation of the Bandim market, the granting of 56,000 micro-credits to raise the funding level by UA 0.12 million, the training of 96 local managers and NGO representatives, 396 extension workers and 30,000 grassroot community members as well as the training and vocational re-integration of 600 ex-servicemen and unemployed youths. Other social infrastructure and micro-credit should be made available at the request of the beneficiary communities. The project comprises five components, namely: i) rehabilitation of basic infrastructure, ii) development of income-generating activities, iii) capacity building, iv) resettlement of demobilized ex-servicemen and v) project management. |
