Guinea-Bissau – Drinking Water Supply and Stormwater Drainage Project in Bissau

The present intervention concerns the Drinking Water Distribution and Rainwater Drainage Project in Bissau. It is designed in a deplorable health context in Bissau in terms of waterborne diseases and erosion due to the lack of gutters. The project should help to (1) rehabilitate and extend the drinking water distribution network, equip it with generalized metering; (2) repair and build stormwater collectors in the areas most affected by erosion; (3) install a system to control deep aquifers; (4) train technicians and managers. This should allow for effective maintenance and provides a sound basis for the functioning of the new management structure for the sector. The main components of the project are as follows: (i) stormwater drainage; (ii) rehabilitation and extension of the AEP network; (iii) technical assistance; (iv) logistics; (v) training and (vi) consulting engineer.
