Description
Description | Guizhou is one of the poorest provinces in China and ranks lowest in the national comparison in terms of key development indicators. There is a lot of catching up to do in terms of social and economic infrastructure. The Guiyang Children's Hospital (GCH) is the only specialized children's hospital in the southwestern Chinese province. For several years, the hospital has been reaching its capacity limits, is often overcrowded and has to turn away patients. A comprehensive expansion is therefore planned or underway; a new building for obstetrics and prenatal care was already completed in 2015. As part of the current expansion project, a complex of three new buildings (children's ward, outpatient clinic and administration) is to be built and equipped. The aim of the project is to improve diagnostic and treatment capacity and to create high-quality care for infants, children and young people. The hospital will also be able to fulfill its tasks as a teaching hospital for doctors, nurses and rural basic health services, which was only possible to a limited extent in recent years due to a lack of capacity. The project thus makes an important contribution to maternal and child health in one of the poorest and most structurally weak provinces in China. |
