Description

Gulfstream G280 is a super midsized business jet, which was configured as a command and control (C2) aircraft for the Philippine Air Force. Command and control aircraft Philippine Air Force Approximately 500k 3,600nm Gulfstream Aerospace Gulfstream G280 is a super midsized business jet, which was configured as a command and control (C2) aircraft for the Philippine Air Force. Philippine Air Force contracted Gulfstream to provide a Gulfstream G280 for command and control role in 2019. It was acquired through the US Government under the foreign military sales (FMS) programme. Gulfstream G280 command and control aircraft was manufactured by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) for Gulfstream Aerospace. The aircraft was formally handed over to the Philippine Air Force in September 2020. It is assigned to the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command based in Mactan, Cebu. Gulfstream G280 features an efficient aerodynamic design with a tip-to-tip wing, T-tail and high-thrust engines for improved range and speed. The aircraft can land on small runways. Other features include brake-by-wire with auto braking, an anti-ice wing with no slats, and fly-by-wire spoilers and rudder. The aircraft can accommodate up to ten passengers and features up to two living areas, comprising sleeping space for up to five people. Gulfstream G280 is fitted with extensive communication equipment for the Philippine Air Force. The air force can transport 12 to 15 individuals, including the pilots and crew. The aircraft with a wingspan of 63ft measures 20.37m long and 6.4m high. The aircraft can carry a maximum payload of 4,050lb (1,837kg) and has a maximum take-off weight of 39,600lb (17,962kg). It has a maximum fuel capacity of 14,600lb (6,622kg). It has a range of 3,600nmi, a maximum cruise speed of 0.84 Mach (482kt) and a maximum cruise altitude of 45,000ft (13,716m). The Gulfstream G280 features state-of-the-art Gulfstream PlaneView 280 flight deck equipped with Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion integrated avionics system for improved situational awareness and decreased workload on the pilot. Its enhanced flight vision system (EFVS) enables the pilot to land in low-visibility conditions. The synthetic vision-primary flight display offers the three-dimensional graphics of terrain and runways, which are displayed on the head-up display (HUD) for enhanced situational awareness. The attitude and heading reference system (SAHRS) provides heading and attitude data of the aircraft. The data is used by the cockpit display system, the autopilot and the flight management system. The avionics is also integrated with terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS) capability. The total interior length of the aircraft is 9.82m. The aircraft features 19 large panoramic windows and a 120ft³ baggage compartment. The cabin accommodates a fully equipped galley, a full-length closet, and a spacious lavatory with two windows and a vacuum toilet system with overboard venting. The cabin management system manages temperature, entertainment, monitors, and lighting through fingertip control. The Gulfstream G280 is equipped with two Honeywell HTF7250G engines, each generating 7,445lb of take-off thrust. The engine belongs to the HTF7000 family with a dispatch reliability of 99.96%. It incorporates low emissions single annular combustor for emissions reduction (SABER) technology to reduce carbon and NOx emissions. The full HTF7250G power-plant of the aircraft includes engine, nacelle, fire suppression capability and thrust reverser. The system holds FAA certification and (Joint Aviation Authorities) JAA validation. Triumph Group took over the Gulfstream G280 wing production programme from Spirit AeroSystems in December 2014. Honeywell International provides the HTF7250G propulsion system, environmental and cabin pressurisation control systems, aircraft lighting, SAHRS, auxiliary power unit (APU), and TAWS.
