The project involves the relocation, expansion and modernization of a cooking appliance manufacturing operation located in Izmir, Turkey. For the last four to five years, Gunkol has been in the process of moving its manufacturing operation from its original 27 ha. site in Gorece to a new 110 ha. site at Pancar, where the Company is also investing in new machinery, tools, and dies for the production of a new line of ovens and cooking ranges. The new production facility includes a 36,000-sq. m. production building, warehouses, and offices. Manufacturing processes comprise sheet metal forming (cutting, bending, punching, welding, etc.), coating and enameling, and assembly. Gunkol expects to continue to employ its existing workforce of 1200 and to complete the transfer and be in full operation at the new factory by the end of 2001. The buildings at the original Gorece site will continue to be used as offices; the old production facilities will remain vacant for the time being.
