Information South Central Railway [SCR] - II has come up with Guntur - Guntakal Doubling Project with a ticket size of 3631 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Guntur - Guntakal Doubling project [443 km] is important rail link connecting Rayalaseema region and beyond with the coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh State. The present single line section is unable to meet the demands and has become congested with operation of more number of trains. this Will substantially enhance the potential for running more number of passenger carrying and freight trains between Guntur-Guntakal there by leading to the possibility of handling more rail services from Hyderabad / Nadikude side towards Rayalaseema region and beyond down South. The enhanced connectivity will help in improving the Socio-economic status of the people of this area. This improved connectivity will substantially increase freight transportation by harnessing the potential of mineral rich Palnadu Region to transport its produce/goods to any part of the country. Since this line is providing reasonably direct connectivity to Karnataka State and its capital city area, Doubling of this section enhances overall train handling capacity in the Guntur/Vijayawada region, with the possibility of diverting more trains via Guntur to balance the rail traffic as well as offer the citizens of Guntur, Prakasam and Kurnool districts more train services. Land acquisition - Doubling involves 167.47 Hectares acquisition of revenue land - Pvt , 76.185 Ha of Govt Land and 37.67 acres of forest land.
