Description | H2NorthEast (H2NE) is a planned 1GW blue hydrogen project by Kellas Midstream and SSE Thermal aiming to distribute hydrogen gas through a regional pipeline network. The project has bid to join the UK-backed East Coast Cluster (ECC) carbon capture and storage (CCS) programme to capture and store CO2 emissions. The project includes a memorandum of understanding with Northern Gas Networks to supply hydrogen to industrial end-users via the ECC Teesside hydrogen network. Early-stage engineering began in 2023, with Johnson Matthey selected to provide LCH carbon capture technology. The initial plan was for full operation by 2030, but CO2 storage site delays have pushed potential production to 2032. |
