Description
Description | The project involves tapping into a 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct in Athens to supply non-potable water for urban irrigation, street washing, fire protection, and industrial uses. The aqueduct, originally commissioned by Roman Emperor Hadrian, will be used to alleviate the city's severe water crisis caused by a megadrought. A 2.5-mile pipeline has been constructed to connect the aqueduct's central reservoir beneath Dexameni Square with suburban neighborhoods, supplying water to civic buildings and about 80 homes initially. The full project is expected to be completed by 2029. |
