Description

Description

Haines Junction’s two operating water wells are nearing replacement age. Typical water wells are expected to last between 30-40 years, before showing signs of age and begin to need maintenance. Haines Junction’s current wells are both nearing 40 years old. The intention of the new well is to add redundancy to their water supply system, and allow for community growth, as an additional well will increase water supply volumes. The project will drill a new potable water well with suitable water quality and adequate protection for municipal water supply. Additionally, the new well will be connected to the existing water treatment and supply infrastructure. Update existing source water protection planning to account for the new well. Due to Haines Junction’s complicated hydrogeology, a consulting firm was hired to help define the target aquifer and depth to ensure adequate water quality is met with this new well, and limited changes are required to the current water treatment facility.
