Description

Description

In October 2006, Salcon Berhad won a 30-year rehabilitate, build, operate, transfer (RBOT) contract to operate an existing potable water supply plant and construct a new plant in Haining City, Zhejiang Province, China. The existing plant had a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters daily, but was operated beyond capacity at 70,000 cubic meters daily, and the new plant was planned with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters daily to serve Haining City's 900,000 residents with a total capacity of 360,000 cubic meters daily. The contract was awarded through a competitive bidding process by the local Haining City government. The winning project company, Haining Salcon Water Company, was 60% owned by Salcon Zhejiang, the Chinese arm of Malaysian water company Salcon Berhad, and 40% by the water public utility, Haining City Water Supply Co. The project was estimated to cost MYR 150million (US$ 40.9million) and the new plant was to be completed in two phases of 150,000 cubic meters daily each. The existing plant was operational as of February 2007. Construction on the first phase of 150,000 cubic meters in the new plant was estimated to finish in 2007.
