Description | In October 2006, Salcon Berhad won a 30-year rehabilitate, build, operate, transfer (RBOT) contract to operate an existing potable water supply plant and construct a new plant in Haining City, Zhejiang Province, China. The existing plant had a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters daily, but was operated beyond capacity at 70,000 cubic meters daily, and the new plant was planned with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters daily to serve Haining City's 900,000 residents with a total capacity of 360,000 cubic meters daily. The contract was awarded through a competitive bidding process by the local Haining City government. The winning project company, Haining Salcon Water Company, was 60% owned by Salcon Zhejiang, the Chinese arm of Malaysian water company Salcon Berhad, and 40% by the water public utility, Haining City Water Supply Co.
