Halperin Park is a $300 million freeway capping project in Dallas that covers 14 lanes of interstate highway traffic. The park includes a playground, splash pad, band shell, large lawn, and linear walkway that reconnects the Oak Cliff neighborhood, which was divided by highway construction in the 1950s. Designed by architecture firm HKS and landscape architecture firm SWA, the park features mass timber elements to reduce weight and includes spaces for recreation and economic activities. The project is in its first phase, with a second phase planned to expand the park to 5.3 acres.
