Description
Description | Turkish privatization administration, Ozellestirme Idaresi Baskanligi (OIB) finalized the sale of 1,156 MW Hamitabat Combined Cycle Power Plant (Hamitabat CCPP) in Kirklareli province to Limak Holding in August 2013. Hamitabat CCPP was built in 1985 and was Turkey’s first natural gas based power plant. The project was awarded to Limak Holding after it made the highest offer of USD 105 million in a competitive bidding conducted by OIB in February 2013. A total of seven companies entered the race; Turkish power companies Karkey Karadeniz Elektrik Uretim, Enerjisa Enerji Uretim, Limak and Saudi Arabia's International Company for Water and Power Projects were subsequently joined by Eksim, Ozkar and Fernas. The tender included five elimination rounds that ended in close competition between Fernas Construction and Limak Holding. This acquisition was part of Limak’s strategic intiative to reach 5,000 MW generation capacity target. Turkey’s Limak Holding is active in the whole energy value chain including electricity generation, distribution, sales and trading. Limak Holding took over Hamitabat CCPP from state generation company Elektrik Uretim AS (EUAS) in August 2013. Limak holding plans to invest USD 1.2 billion in the power plant over the next two years to increase its production capacity to 1,200 megawatts and to make the power plant more efficient and competitive. In 2015 it reached FC on an additional debt financing of $562 million to expand the project.
