Description | The Hammond Pond Parkway Improvements Project is an approximately $11.3 million effort to improve safety and accessibility along the corridor between Beacon Street and Route 9 in Newton, MA. The project includes reducing most of the roadway from four travel lanes to two, constructing a 12-foot shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists on the west side of the parkway, adding a sidewalk on the east side, upgrading drainage and lighting, improving intersections and crosswalks, and installing new landscaping. The redesign aims to improve access to nearby destinations such as Hammond Pond Reservation and Webster Conservation Area. Construction began in 2024 and is ongoing in phases with periodic lane closures and traffic shifts. |
