The project aims to reduce York's reliance on uncertain global energy supplies by generating renewable energy. It was scaled back from an initial 28MW plan due to safety concerns related to aircraft at nearby Rufforth East Airfield. The project is planned to be built in phases, with initial phases generating 1MW and 5MW by 2027 and 2028 respectively, and a further 10MW phase by 2029. The project could save the council up to £195,000 annually and potentially earn between £7 million and £17 million over 30 years. |
