HarmonizER addresses a critical gap in existing sports initiatives by introducing a program tailored to the distinctive needs of pregnant women and new mothers. Globally, approximately 10% of pregnant women and 13% of postpartum women experience mental disorders, notably depression, while the level of physical exercise is minimal. Recognizing the transformative journey of pregnancy and childbirth, HarmonizER seeks to enhance physical health and mitigate mental health risks for women during these periods. Integrating yoga, Pilates, and mindfulness practices, the project aims to promote physical activity, psychosocial well-being, and essential support. Our target encompasses women facing diverse challenges, such as socioeconomic constraints, cultural disparities, or health-related barriers. The initiative not only focuses on women but also prioritizes the empowerment and skill development of trainers and educators. Through tasks like a Train the Trainer program and transnational collaboration, HarmonizER aspires to create a supportive community, fostering active European citizenship and bringing a European dimension to local levels. By promoting education in and through sports, encouraging dual careers for trainers, and using mobility to improve qualifications, the project strives to bring about transformative change at individual, organizational, and sectoral levels. The objectives align with the European Weeks of Sport, the Council Recommendation on health-enhancing physical activity, and the EU Physical Activity Guidelines. HarmonizER is not just a fitness initiative; it is a holistic approach to maternal empowerment, focusing on mindfulness, movement, and the pursuit of happiness for pregnant and postpartum women across Europe.
