Description
Description | WJC proposes an innovative and comprehensive project to address the growing challenge of antisemitic online hate speech, hate crime and harmful content. The project seeks to: • Build the capacity of Jewish communities and civil society organizations to report and record antisemitic online content and determine when it constitutes illegal content; • Remove barriers to reporting online antisemitism by means of intuitive, user-friendly, trusted software; • Raise awareness about gendered antisemitism and other forms of intersectional antisemitism; • Enhance the resilience of Jewish communities and civil society in their work enabling them to engage in data-driven advocacy; • Address gaps in law enforcement and IT platform responses to antisemitic hate online; • Enhance knowledge on the prevalence and trends regarding antisemitic hatred across different platforms and languages by developing audits of reported content; • Raise awareness about rights and hate crime speech legislation in the EU, especially as they pertain to manifestations of hate online; The following activities will be carried out: • Methodological and technical development and rollout of a two-pronged reporting tool (browser extension and mobile widget); • National level small-scale trainings of digital contact points in affiliated communities on the use of the tool, legislation, platform policies, victim support, digital safety and advocacy; • International best-practice exchange seminar for digital contact points; • Audit of antisemitic incidents with an eye to uncovering emerging trends and differences in experiences of women, men, youth, LGBTQI+ people and other demographics; • Outreach, dissemination and policy-recommendations to key stakeholders including IT platforms, law enforcement and national and European policy-makers; The activities provide a comprehensive and scaled approach to addressing antisemitic hate crime and hate speech online, bringing innovation to an emerging policy space. |
