Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park Disaster Recovery Phase One

Phase One of the Disaster Recovery construction projects at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, resulting from the 2018 Kīlauea eruption and summit collapse, is almost complete. This includes the opening of the Uēkahuna observation deck, construction of a new roundabout traffic circle near the park entrance, an additional entrance lane for park staff and partners, and an exit pullout before the highway. Work is also underway on the western switchbacks of the Kīlauea Iki Trail for repairs and safety upgrades, expected to be completed by September 30. Hawaiian Electric is conducting line relocation and power pole replacement along Highway 11 in the park.
