Description

Description

Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. submitted its Integrated Grid Planning Request for Proposals (IGP RFP) to seek competitively priced renewable energy and storage projects for Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, and Maui. The projects aim to meet growing energy needs, modernize the generation fleet, reduce oil use, and progress toward 100% renewable energy by 2045. The plan includes retiring aging power plants, procuring nearly 1,650 GWh of variable renewable energy, 465 MW of grid forming resources, and 111 MW of firm generating capacity, with projects expected in service between 2031-2034. Additionally, the company seeks regulatory approval to expand procurement for up to an additional 500 MW of fuel-flexible firm generation on Oʻahu and plans to launch a request for proposals for all fuels by the end of 2026.
