Description
Description | A £3bn deal has been signed to overhaul the 70-year-old Haweswater aqueduct that supplies water to more than 2.5 million customers across north-west England. The project involves replacing ageing pipelines in six tunnel sections with new tunnels and a pipeline using high-tech boring machines. The aqueduct carries water from Cumbria to homes in Greater Manchester and Lancashire and uses gravity to transport 125 million gallons of water daily. The upgrade is part of United Utilities' programme to improve the region's strategic water network and will be funded by direct procurement through competitive tendering. |
