The health situation of mothers and children in Cameroon is worse than in countries with a comparable level of development. With regard to maternal mortality and child mortality (<5 years), Cameroon is clearly failing to meet the Millennium Development Goals. The situation is particularly dramatic in rural regions, given the inadequate health care and the population's lack of purchasing power. The project is an extension of the health program financed jointly with French development cooperation (2006 66 172). The goal is to improve the health situation of mothers and children. While the first phase will rehabilitate and equip 83 health stations in the crisis regions of the Extreme North, North and Adamawa, as well as in the South, Phase II will rehabilitate and equip further health stations in the central regions (excluding Yaoundé) and East of Cameroon. If necessary, the sale of vouchers for safe childbirth to pregnant women will also be subsidized, as far as available funds allow.
