The purpose of the Health Sector Development Project is to support the Government of Djibouti's long-term health sector development program in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals for the reduction of under-five child mortality and maternal mortality rates. There are four main components. The first component improves health services by improving the physical and human capacity of health facilities; establishing Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) programs in all facilities; reinforcing the malaria control program; and supporting immunization. The second component improves the availability of trained personnel by increasing capacity and improving the curriculum of Centre de Formation des Personnel de la Sante Publique (CFPS); and by improving service conditions for qualified paramedics. The third component improves the availabilty of drugs and medical consumables by supporting the stocking of drugs in emergency health facilties; establishing a self-sustaining independent drug fund (CAMME); and supporting the devleopment of community pharmacies that buy generic drugs from CAMME and sell them at a low cost to patients. The fourth component improves sector management through capacity building in the health ministry and supports administrative autonomy of Hopital Peltier.
