Description
Description | The FC module (BMZ No. 2021 68 904) covers the third phase of the Health System Strengthening - Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) project in Togo, which has been implemented in the Kara region since May 2018 and will be extended to the Savanes and Centrale regions with additional funding of EUR 22 million. Togo remains one of the poorest countries in the world with a per capita income of around US$2 per day. The population's health care in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), especially in rural areas, is precarious. Maternal mortality was 36/100,000 in 2017, and neonatal mortality was 25/1,000 in 2020. The FC project addresses this problem. By strengthening the health system in the area of SRHR, a contribution is made to improving maternal and newborn health. The aim of the FC project is to improve access, use and quality of health services, and to increase demand. The FC project aims to renovate, expand and equip rural health facilities and district hospitals with medical equipment (component 1). Targeted training and communication measures accompanying the investment (components 2 and 3) support quality improvement and the creation of demand. The family planning services in the communities are also supported and expanded. The project sponsor is the Togolese Ministry of Health (Ministère de la Santé, de lHygiène Publique et de lAccès Universel aux Soins), which delegates implementation to the regional directorate. The target group of Phase III of the project continues to be the rural and predominantly poor population, particularly women of childbearing age and newborns in the Centrale and Savanes regions. |
