Description
Description | With a per capita income of around USD 2 per day, Togo is one of the poorest countries in the world. Health care for the population, particularly in rural areas, is precarious. The chronic underfunding and vulnerability of the Togolese health system is reflected particularly in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and particularly with regard to the health of mothers and children. Only 50% of births in Togo are attended by trained personnel. Maternal and child mortality is worryingly high at 401/100,000 and 27/1,000 live births respectively. The planned development cooperation program is intended to contribute to strengthening the health system, particularly in the area of SRHR, and to improving maternal and newborn health. In addition, the project aims to improve pandemic control in the Kara region. The aim of the FC project is to improve access to and use as well as the quality of health services. The focus here is on improving basic and emergency care in maternity care (including pre- and post-natal care) and emergency care for newborns and providing the appropriate infrastructure and medical equipment (soins obestétricaux et néonataux durgence, SONU). In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, measures to combat the pandemic were introduced in 2020. The focus of the new component is on the construction and equipment of an isolation and treatment center in Kara. The target group of the project is the rural and predominantly poor population in the Kara region, especially women of childbearing age and newborns. The Ministry of Health (MSHPAUS) is the sponsor of the project. With an FC volume of EUR 10 million and the Togolese government's own funds of EUR 1 million, the total budget amounts to EUR 11 million. |
