Description | The Heartland Greenway is a proposed carbon sequestration pipeline project by Navigator CO2 Ventures. It aims to carry liquified carbon dioxide captured from ethanol and fertilizer plants to underground sequestration wells in neighboring states. The pipeline would span about 1,300 miles across five states, with around 900 miles in Iowa, crossing 36 counties including southern Dickinson County. The pipeline would be buried at least 5 feet underground, pressurized at a minimum of 1,200 psi, and have diameters ranging from 6 to 24 inches, mostly 8 inches in Dickinson County. Several booster stations would maintain pressure, but none are planned in Dickinson County. The project is expected to cost $3 billion and is planned to begin construction in early 2024 with operations starting in late 2024 or early 2025. |
