The project “Heat in the Euregio — Focus and Modernise (WIEfm)” works along the supply infrastructure value chain by means of heating networks in cities and municipalities, covering the three areas “Production”, “Distribution & Operations” and “Sales”. The project is divided into three phases in which the following concrete activities are implemented: In project phase I, differences and similarities on the German and Dutch sides are worked out with a focus on the innovative and efficient distribution of heat over heat networks. By comparing existing structures and conducting excursions and workshops with SMEs and other stakeholders in the value chain, innovation potentials are identified. Case studies in the region are selected to clarify the project objectives and questions in order to ensure the transfer of knowledge and innovation. Phase II focuses on technical innovations, process innovations and governance structures. The aim is to identify and develop strategies and tools in order to build and operate innovative heat grids. Phase III specifies the findings from the previous phases and develops for this purpose, together with funded feasibility studies (“heat vouchers”) — implementation roadmaps and strategies. The studies supported will be accompanied in their implementation; the project is responsible for the task of Controlling and, above all, the identification of obstacles and the verification of the key figures listed in the feasibility studies in the project applications. As a result, best practice examples are generated and success or inhibitory factors are derived. Phase III is thus intended to consolidate and validate the results of the previous phases.
