Description | The project involves the development of a new rail link connecting Heathrow Airport, located 23km west of Central London, to the south of England. It is envisaged that it will serve Waterloo station in London, Surrey, and Hampshire (two counties in the south). Though the exact route has not yet been defined. The capital cost of the project is estimated to be between GBP700 (~US$950) million and GBP1.4 (US$1.9 billion). An independent venture set up to develop the project is proposing a new 13km railway linking Terminal 5 of Heathrow Airport to south London, Sussex, and Kent through Clapham Junction and Waterloo East. The proposed route follows the M25 corridor to connect to the existing railway near Chertsey or Virginia Water. |
