Description | Giddawa Hydro Power (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of Hemas Holding from Sri Lanka, developed the 1.95MW Giddawa small hydropower plant, connected to the Gatambe Substation. The project was expected to generate 9,000kWh annually. The project used two Vertical Francis Turbines manufactured by WKV (Wasserkraft Volk AG), from Germany. These drive 2 400V generators producing 33kV output. The project company was Giddawa Hydro Power Pvt. Ltd. The project sold its output to the national grid via the Ceylon Electricity Board. The project received an investment agreement from the Board of Investments in September 2007. The project was reported as operational in 2012. Commissioning was expected and reported for 2008. Total cost was expected at Rs.223.45 million (US$ 1.73 million).
